My wife Nancy and I moved to Stokesdale from Greensboro in 2017.
Since retiring in 2022, I’ve been active in our community by attending Town Council meetings, chairing the Town Park Improvement Committee, sitting on the Town Planning Board and Special Events Committee, as well as serving on our neighborhood HOA Advisory Board.
As chair of the Park Improvement Committee, I am proud to have helped in expanding our playgrounds, constructing outdoor basketball and pickleball courts, collaborating with the Scouts to develop nature trails, adding lighting to the soccer fields, and most recently, adding decorative fencing and landscaping along the entrance — making our park more inclusive, accessible, safe and attractive.
As a member of the Planning Board, I’ve worked to review land use, zoning, and development proposals, always with an eye toward protecting property rights, preserving rural character, and keeping the community’s voice front and center.
My Special Events Committee duties have included managing publicity and sponsorships for the annual Christmas parade—one of our most cherished traditions.
I grew up in Raleigh and began working at age 15, holding jobs in the fast food industry, construction, land surveying, manufacturing, park management and retail. After graduating from NC State University with a degree in recreation and park administration, I spent most of my career in commercial insurance underwriting, assessing risk factors associated with insuring a wide variety of businesses.
In 2004, I cofounded a successful insurance company where I led strategic planning and agency development—helping grow the company into one of North Carolina’s top five writers of workers’ compensation insurance.
This diverse collection of work experiences has given me a broad and valuable knowledge base for problem-solving and decision-making. Indeed, knowing “a little about a lot” can be a crucial asset in leadership and government— particularly as it relates to understanding the many aspects of an issue.
I am the proud father of two children and grandfather of four. It's always special when they come to visit and I can share the charm of Stokesdale with them!
